Storm drop conference tilt against Coe

INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Simpson College men's basketball team dropped its home conference opener against the defending American Rivers Conference Tournament Champions, Coe, by a score of 82-75.

The Storm (3-3, 0-2 A-R-C) got a season-high 22 points from Andrew Curran, but the Kohawks (7-1, 2-0 A-R-C) continued their impressive start to their campaign in hopes of defending their conference tournament title.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Storm raced out to an early lead, capped off with a triple from Andrew Gibb to make the score 18-11 in the opening minutes.
  • However, the Kohawks answered the fight, embarking on a 10-0 run to take a 21-18 lead.
  • The teams traded buckets over the next few minutes, but the Kohawks grabbed the momentum by using a 11-2 run over the final five minutes to lead 41-30 at the half.
  • Simpson began the second half much like the first, cutting the Coe lead to just four, but that was as close as the Storm came, as Coe started asserting itself on offense to race back out to a 13-point lead.
  • The Storm attempted a rally from being down by as many as 15, with the Kohawks committing multiple turnovers, but hit enough free throws to hold the Storm off.
