Storm unable to tame Griffins in season opener

FULTON, Mo. - Despite seven 3-pointers and 35 points from Caden Rehmeier, the Simpson College men's basketball team dropped its season opener against Fontbonne.

The Storm (0-1) rallied from a 10-point first half deficit to lead by as many as six in the second half, but the Griffins (1-0) closed the game on a 41-22 run to claim a 96-83 victory.

TURNING POINT
With the game tied at 70 with under 10 minutes to go, the Griffins held the Storm scoreless for five minutes, embarking on a 17-0 run to seize control of the game decisively.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
The Storm actually outshot the Griffins, making 49.2 percent of their field goals, but Fontbonne attempted 20 more shots due to their 48-35 advantage on the glass. The Griffins also took better care of the ball, only comitting eight turnovers, while Simpson had 16.
