Storm use explosive second half to take down Eagles

INDIANOLA, Iowa - An explosive second half from the Simpson men's basketball team took down Faith Baptist Bible in nonconference action, 103-70, at Cowles Fieldhouse.

The Storm (4-4, 0-3 A-R-C) looked like it might pull away early, going up 10 and 11 points, but each time the Eagles (2-4) battled back to pull it back within a couple possessions. A couple baskets before the half from the Eagles only meant the Storm had a three-point advantage at halftime. However, Simpson turned on the intensity in the second half, outscoring the Eagles 57-27 in the period.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Storm opened up a 25-15 lead before the midway point of the first half after a layup from Andrew Curran, but the Eagles went on a 6-0 run to keep the game in striking distance.
  • Simpson responded immediately as well, with leading scorers Andrew Gibb and Caden Rehmeier scoring on two possessions each for the largest first half lead for the Storm at 32-21.
  • The Eagles answered again and showed great resilience, trimming the Storm lead to 46-43.
  • The Storm came out hot in the second half on both ends, embarking on a 22-6 run over the first nine minutes.
  • Simpson continued to push the pace by shooting 62.1 percent in the second half, opening up a 34-point lead late, ultimately winning by 33.
