Storm drop Holiday Classic opener to Wisconsin Lutheran

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson College men's basketball team dropped its opener in the Loras Holiday Classic to Wisconsin Lutheran on Friday evening.

The Storm (5-7, 0-4 A-R-C) dropped their second straight game as the Warriors (10-1, 5-0 NACC) continued an impressive start to the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Warriors and Storm traded buckets early on, but the Warriors used a 13-2 run to claim an early 20-9 lead.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran led by as many as 18 in the first half and despite a quick 8-1 Storm run, the Warriors led by 15 at the break.
  • The Storm were within 11 early in the second half, but the Warriors used a 16-0 run to break open the game and claim the win.
  • Simpson closed the game well, going on a 26-8 run, but the Warriors ended up winning 93-77.

NOTABLE

  • This was the first meeting between the two programs since the 2007-08 season, with the Warriors up 2-1 all-time.
  • The Storm still shot well from the field at 50 percent, but the Warriors nailed 15 triples and shot 53.7 percent from the field with 11 more shot attempts than the Storm.
  • Simpson recorded its second-best shooting percentage from behind the arc in a game this season, despite only attempting 18 triples.
