
Storm corral Rams for nonconference road win
MOUNT VERNON, Iowa - In wire-to-wire fashion, the Simpson College men's basketball team defeated Cornell College by a score of 100-70.
The Storm (3-2, 0-1 A-R-C) rebounded from a loss to Central in dominating fashion, led by Andrew Gibb's career-high 27 points. The Rams (2-3) had no answer for a dominating Storm offense that shot over 50 percent in each half. The Storm dominated the glass as well, by a margin of 42-29.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Storm raced out to a 10-0 lead before four minutes had been played, making 10 of its first 15 shots overall.
- Simpson led by as many as 23 points in the first half, and led 54-36 at halftime on 66.7 percent shooting. Gibb had 17 points in the first half while Easton Darling had 11.
- The Rams came out strong in the second half, cutting the lead to 13 and appeared to have gained momentum, but a huge 3-pointer from Andrew Curran sparked a 17-3 Storm run to reestablish a more comfortable margin.
- Simpson easily kept its lead the remainder of the game, leading by as many as 31 points to cruise to victory.

NOTABLE
- The Storm have now won seven of the last nine meetings against the Rams.
- Simpson hit the 100-point mark for the first time since last November's win over Knox.
- With an overall shooting percentage of 58.3 percent, it was the Storm's best shooting performance since Nov. 13, 2021 at Westminster.
- Austin Murrow set a new career-high with 14 points and tied his career-high in rebounds with nine.
