Four players earn all-conference recognition

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Four members of the Simpson College men's soccer team were named to All-American Rivers Conference Team, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Senior striker Ronaldo Ordaz highlighted the honors for the Storm, as he earned his second straight all-conference honor after his goal-laden season. Ordaz is the first player since Jordy Triana-Vasquez in 2020-21 to be named first team all-conference two years in a row.

Espoire Nkomezi, Matt Hasken, and Zach Kline were all also named honorable mention all-conference, with each player picking up their first career all-conference honor.

Simpson finished the 2022 season with a 7-10-1 overall record, going 4-4 in the conference. The Storm ultimately dropped a heartbreaker to Luther on penalties in the first round of the A-R-C Tournament.

Ronaldo Ordaz, First Team

  • Senior forward from Marshalltown, Iowa
  • Earned his second straight all-conference honor for the Storm
  • Started all 18 games, leading the conference in points (37), goals (13), and assists (11)
  • Tied the Simpson single-season assist record
  • Recorded at least one goal or assist in 13 of 18 games, including a streak of six straight to begin the season
  • Tallied four multi-goal games on the year
  • Was one of three players in the conference to record six points in a game, with two goals and two assists in the 5-2 win at Loras
  • Won three A-R-C Offensive Player of the Week awards, including two in back-to-back weeks

Espoire Nkomezi, Honorable Mention

  • Junior defender and midfielder from Johnston, Iowa
  • Earned his first all-conference honor
  • Played in 16 games, with all of those being starts
  • Recorded his first career assist in a 4-2 loss at Knox
  • Scored his lone goal of the season at Coe with a header off a corner kick

Matt Hasken, Honorable Mention

  • Senior midfielder from Castle Rock, Colo.
  • Receiving his first career all-conference honor
  • Started all 18 games for the Storm
  • Recorded six points and two goals on the year
  • Dished out an assist in back-to-back home games against Macalester and Illinois College
  • Scored the game-winning goal at Buena Vista and added another in a win over Loras

Zach Kline, Honorable Mention

  • Freshman midfielder from Bondurant, Iowa
  • First Storm freshman to be named to an all-conference team since Baraka Ellie in 2018
  • Played in 16 games with 11 starts
  • Ranked second on the team with 12 points and four assists and was third on the team with four goals
  • Scored two goals and dished out an assist in his collegiate debut against Augustana
  • Recorded one goal and one assist in a 3-1 home win over Central
