Storm rebound with win over Rams in feisty affair

INDIANOLA, Iowa - An early goal by Juan Sandoval followed by a late brace from Ronaldo Ordaz led the Simpson College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory in a chippy, tough contest.

The Storm (3-2) and the Rams (1-3-3) combined for eight yellow cards in the match, all coming in the second half. Sandoval opened the scoring less than 15 minutes in, being assisted by Ordaz, before Ordaz himself struck twice in the final 10 minutes to seal the win.

GOAL SUMMARY

  • The Storm had a bright start which was rewarded early on. Ordaz received a ball from the midfield and rolled the ball as it was approaching past the defender to the onrushing Sandoval, who coolly dispatched it into the bottom left corner.
  • After the Rams' keeper mistakenly picked up the ball outside his own area, receiving a yellow card, Ordaz doubled the Storm lead with a beautiful free kick into the top-left corner.
  • The spectacular senior then added the exclamation point a few moments later. Cornell tried to clear the ball, but it only went as far as Ben Reynolds, who made a simple pass to Ordaz. Ordaz turned and fired a long-range effort that caught the keeper off-guard for his fifth goal of the season.
