CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Simpson College men's soccer team fell to Coe in its final regular season match on Tuesday evening.
The Storm (7-10, 4-4 A-R-C) came into the game capable of finishing in multiple spots in the conference, but the Kohawks (8-7-2, 3-5 A-R-C) spoiled the party. The Storm will enter the A-R-C Tournament as the No. 5 seed after dropping its last three matches.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Kohawks struck first in the 26th minute following a corner kick. Kevin Williams headed in the corner kick to the right side of the goal to give Coe a 1-0 lead.
- Coe doubled the lead less than five minutes later, when a cross was headed down back across goal, allowing Jack Resado to fire home.
- The Storm got one back on a corner of their own in the 55th minute, with Zach Kline assisting Espoire Nkomezi. Nkomezi found space at the top of the six-yard box and headed home in emphatic fashion.
- Simpson pressed for an equalizer, but with less than 10 minutes to go, Coe found the third to give them some breathing room and eventually finish the game off.
NOTABLE
- The Storm extend its streak of having qualified for every conference tournament since 2011.
- Coe claims its third win in the all-time series, but the Storm still dominate the series by a mark of 26-3-1.
- Nkomezi scored his first goal of the season and has scored at least once in all three seasons he has played in.
- Kline becomes the second player for the Storm to reach double-digit points, now with 11 on the season (four goals, three assists).
