Ordaz wins back-to-back conference player of the week awards

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - Ronaldo Ordaz of the Simpson College men's soccer team won his second straight American Rivers Conference Offensive Player of the Week award, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Ordaz takes home his third weekly honor of the season and the fourth of his esteemed career. He was a driving force in two Storm wins that have put the team in pole position in the conference.

"Ronaldo's production was a major factor in earning two big A-R-C wins this week," said head coach Rick Isaacson. "He is playing with tremendous confidence right now and to win player of the week honors three times in a single season is an impressive feat."

The senior forward started off the week by assisting Zach Kline in the Storm's 2-1 home win over Nebraska Wesleyan. Ordaz then scored two penalty kicks and provided two assists in a massive 5-2 win at Loras. Ordaz has now scored all five of his penalty kicks this season while recording at least one goal or assist in every home game.

The Marshalltown, Iowa native is having quite the special season. He leads the conference in points (35), goals (13), and assists (9). Ordaz's points and assists tally already rank in the top 10 all-time in a single season in school history with three more regular season games to come.

"Ronaldo is a special player capable of taking over any game," continued Isaacson. "He's also one of our hardest workers, an attribute that sometimes gets overshadowed by his impressive skill set."

The Storm can take one step further in its chase for a conference title and top two seed in the postseason tournament by traveling to Dubuque on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. kickoff.
