Storm rally from early deficit to claim victory

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Goals from Anthony Chavez and Ronaldo Ordaz led the Simpson College men's soccer team to a comeback victory over Illinois College on Friday evening at Buxton Stadium.

The Blueboys (2-2-0) struck first after a long free kick was mishandled, allowing the ball to trickle over the net for the first goal of the game. However, Ordaz assisted Chavez to tie the game at one before half time. Ordaz then scored what would end up as the game winner less than 10 minutes into the second half, as the Storm (2-1-0) ran out deserved victors after a dominating second period.

KEY MOMENTS

  • Tim Sedlock had the best chance early on, with a long ball being misjudged by the Blueboys defense. Sedlock beat the keeper, but saw his shot crash agonizingly against the post.
  • Just a few moments later, the Blueboys' Santiago Martinez lofted a free kick into the box that was dropped and rolled over the line.
  • The Storm woke up after that, as Ordaz played a chipped through ball to Chavez, who expertly held off his defender and finished into the bottom right corner.
  • Simpson took the lead for good early on in the second half, with Tate Downs playing a long ball that found Matt Hasken. Ordaz anticipated Hasken getting to the ball and peeled off his defender, receiving the pass from Hasken, cutting inside his defender, and rifling a shot into the left corner.
