Storm erupt for massive road win at Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa - The Simpson College men's soccer team came from behind twice to defeat Loras, 5-2, to soar to the top of the table in the American Rivers Conference.

The Storm (7-7, 4-1 A-R-C) fell behind 1-0 and 2-1, but used four second-half goals to defeat the Duhawks (8-3-4, 3-2 A-R-C) for the second straight time at the Rock Bowl. The five goals that the Storm scored equaled the most goals that Simpson netted in a game against the Duhawks.

"This win allows us to stay atop the table," said head coach Rick Isaacson. "We remain in title contention and are rounding into form at exactly at the right time."

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Duhawks struck first after winning the ball back high up the pitch, allowing a through ball to be played to leading scorer Reed Miklavcic, who finished past Kegan Trebilcock for a 1-0 lead.
  • The Storm responded not long after through talismanic striker Ronaldo Ordaz, winning a penalty kick and dispatching it to tie the game.
  • Loras took the back lead heading into halftime just two and a half minutes after Ordaz's equalizer.
  • Simpson equalized again through Matt Hasken, with Ordaz involved once again to provide the assist.
  • The Storm took the lead for good in the 67th minute. Some nice work down the right wing by Tim Sedlock allowed him to create space to fire a perfect cross to the head of Andrew Russell, placing it to the opposite of the goalkeeper.
  • Ordaz gave the Storm a two-goal cushion less than 10 minutes later, as he scored his fifth penalty kick of the season after another Loras foul in the box.
  • The Storm capped off a massive win with a simply sublime goal. Ordaz won the ball and dribbled about 25 yards into the box, before he was slowed down by two Loras defenders. With his back to the goal, he backheeled a pass into an on-rushing Sedlock, who fired a one-time finish into the top-right corner.
