About Pat Summitt and The Pat Summitt Fund
Pat Summitt has served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Tennessee for 38 years and has accumulated more than 1,000 career wins.  Her coaching highlights include 8 NCAA National Championships, 15 SEC Championships, 29 NCAA Tournament Appearances, and the graduation and success of 159 All-time Lady Vols, including Simpson assistant coach, Elizabeth Curry.

On August 22, 2011, Summitt revealed that she had been diagnosed with early onset dementia, "Alzheimer's Type" by the doctors at the Mayo Clinic.  Just like every other opponent she has encountered over her career, Summitt developed a game plan against the disease including the formation of the Pat Summitt Foundation Fund.

Pat Summitt and her supporters have entrusted The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to facilitate the charitable work of The Pat Summitt Foundation Fund. The Fund was established to support Pat Summitt's dream of finding a cure for Alzheimer's disease.

The Pat Summitt Foundation Fund believes no family should hear a diagnosis like Pat's: early onset dementia, Alzheimer's type.  The fund will make grants to non-profits that provide:

  1. Education and awareness of Alzheimer's, its onset, and treatment,
  2. Support services to patients, their families, and caregivers,
  3. Research to treat, prevent, cure, and ultimately eradicate this disease.
