Simpson women pick up road win at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa - The Simpson women's basketball team used a dominating performance on the glass to notch an 82-69 win over Buena Vista on Wednesday night.

Stacey Schutjer (Titonka, Iowa) made her presence known in every facet of the game, coming off the bench to score a game-high 19 points and pull down 10 rebounds to go along with five steals and three blocks. Kate Nielsen (Urbandale, Iowa) contributed to the effort on the glass with 13 rebounds as the Storm (11-4, 4-2 Iowa Conference) outrebounded Buena Vista 51-33.

Cathy Kain (Des Moines, Iowa) added 16 points and Chelsie Rohrs (Granville, Iowa) scored 14 on 4 of 7 shooting from beyond the arc.

Amanda Roder led the Beavers (8-6, 3-2) with 15 points. Jessica Christensen added 10 and eight rebounds.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Kain and a jumper by Jamie Elbert (Indianola, Iowa) fueled an 8-0, first-half run that helped Simpson open a nine-point lead.

Simpson took a 44-33 lead into the locker room at halftime and never saw its lead drop below seven throughout the second half.

The Storm have the weekend off but host Central on Monday, Jan. 16 at 6 p.m. The Dutch (5-6, 0-5) lost to Loras 56-45 on Wednesday.
