Track and field teams showcase six all-region performers

NEW ORLEANS -- The Simpson College men's and women's track and field teams had six student-athletes capture U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Central Region status and the men's squad finished the indoor season ranked 31st in the USTFCCCA rankings.

Clay Billheimer (DMR), Max Cleveland (DMR), Spencer Moon (DMR), James Murray (DMR), Mason Spree (weight throw) and Jamie Glanz (pentathlon) were recognized as all-region to lead the Storm.

Simpson's distance medley relay clocked a time of 10:12.81 at the Division III Elite Indoor Championships on March 12 to break the previous school record, set one week earlier at the American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships. The quartet is the fourth-ranked DMR squad among NCAA Division III programs.

Spree broke the program record with a distance of 17.26 meters in the weight throw to sit 19th in the country.

In the pentathlon, Glanz tallied a score of 2,822 points to finish fourth at the A-R-C Championships to just miss all-conference honors. Glanz was first in the long jump, tied for first in the high jump and ended third in the shot put to help boost her score.

As a unit, the men climbed five spots from the previous poll to land 31st in the country. Simpson collected two second-place finishes this season and tallied seventh at the A-R-C Championships.

To earn all-region honors, a student-athlete must be one of the top-5 individuals in their respective region on the final TFRRS Descending Order List. In addition, each member of a region's top-3 relay team was also selected for distinction.
