Simpson College to install new video board at Buxton Stadium

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Simpson College will reveal an updated look at Buxton Stadium in the fall of 2021 with the addition of a new, high-definition video board. The state-of-the-art video display will replace the north scoreboard to enhance the gameday experience for both fans and student-athletes.

The project is made possible by donations from members of Simpson's 1969 Mineral Water Bowl football team and other generous donors.

"I want to thank our donors that made this facility upgrade possible," Director of Athletics Marty Bell said. "This new video board is the first of many capital improvements that will be incorporated in the new strategic vision and direction for Simpson College and the athletic department under President Marsha Kelliher's leadership. Creating more attractive facilities is essential to increasing the competitive edge for our athletic programs and will strengthen Simpson's visibility in central Iowa and the Midwest."

The video board spans 15 feet by 28 feet and showcases a multimedia, LED video display. Multi-sport scoring software provides a customized look for the teams that call Buxton Stadium home, including football, soccer and track and field.

"This is a wonderful addition to the campus and will serve our athletic department and the campus well for many years to come," said Bob Lane, vice president for college advancement. "We are grateful to all those who made this possible and look forward to putting this video board to use in the near future."

Members of the 1969 Simpson football team provided generous support for the video board project. Led by head coach John Sullivan, the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champions finished the regular season 8-1 and received an invitation to the Mineral Water Bowl in Excelsior Springs, Missouri. The game marks the only bowl game appearance in program history.

This is the first phase of capital projects that will impact Simpson Athletics. Installation of the video board begins in June.
