Simpson collects five golds at Central Triangular

PELLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's and women's track and field teams collected five first-place finishes at the Central Triangular on Saturday. The men ended second to defeat Luther, while the women tallied third.

Senior Mason Spree excelled in the field events by winning two events. Spree had a toss of 13.96 meters in the shot put and recorded a distance of 16.07 meters in the weight throw to lead the Storm.

Freshman Max Cleveland sprinted to first in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.48 for a new career best. Cleveland also ended third in the 200 meters.

Junior Steven Cruz-Castro paced himself to clock first in the 400-meters, while senior Seth Nostrala garnered gold in the 3000 meters. Sophomore Spencer Moon almost joined his fellow distance runners with a top placing, but ended second in the mile.

The quartet of Ulysses Patterson, Brenden Godbout, Cruz-Castro and Cleveland was second in the 400-meter relay,

Freshman Audrey Arnold led the women for the second-straight week with two top-three placings. Arnold finished second in the long jump and third in the 60-meter hurdles. Senior Jamie Glanz soared to third in the high jump and was also fourth in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 4.61 meters.

Sophomore Alexis Crozier produced a personal-best distance of 11.32 meters in the weight throw to land fifth.

The Storm close out the month of February at the Nebraska Wesleyan Triangular Saturday, Feb. 27. Action will take place in Lincoln, Nebraska with Coe competing as well.
