Spree tosses way to A-R-C Athlete of the Week honor

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Mason Spree is off to a stellar senior season for Simpson College men's track and field after earning two first-place finishes at the Buena Vista Triangular over the weekend en route to being named the American Rivers Conference Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Spree receives the fourth weekly honor for Simpson since the calendar turned to 2021 and is the first track and field student-athlete to do so since Sam Adeniyi collected the honor on Feb. 3, 2020.

The Waverly, Iowa native had a distance of 16.72 meters in the weight throw to just miss clipping his school record of 16.85 meters, which was set in one week prior at the Dubuque Triangular. In the shot put, Spree had a toss of 14.24 meters for a personal best.

Among all NCAA Division III competitors, Spree is 13th in the weight throw and is tied for first in the conference. He is currently fifth in the A-R-C in the shot put.

Spree and the Storm return to action this Saturday at the Central Triangular against Luther and the Dutch.
