Moon qualifies for NCAA Division III Championships

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Simpson College men's track and field sophomore Spencer Moon will have a chance to compete for a national title at the NCAA Division III Championships after qualifying for the 5,000 meters with the 10th-best time in the country.

Moon is the first distance runner for the Storm men to qualify since Matt Chance punched his ticket in 1996, which resulted in him finishing runner-up in 5,000 meters. Simpson last sent competitors to the championships in 2018 when Jordan Coughenor and Dylan Kalinay participated.

The championships will be held May 27-29 in Greensboro, N.C. hosted at North Carolina A&T State University's Irwin Belk Track.

The Lake City, Iowa native broke a 37-year-old program record in the event to secure a career-best time of 14:26.13 that was set on home soil during the Kip Janvrin Open on April 23. He's scheduled to run at 2:25 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 29 in the Tar Heel State.
