Dean named to Academic All-America Third Team

AUSTIN, Texas -- On the heels of receiving his second career College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District honor, Simpson College men's soccer senior Ian Dean elevated his status to an CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team member, the organization announced Wednesday.

Dean is now the ninth men's soccer student-athlete to earn Academic All-America distinction and the first since 2017. Six of those nine selections have come under head coach Rick Isaacson.

The mathematics and physics double major is the lone selection on the men's side from the American Rivers Conference. He maintained an impressive 3.98 grade-point average to garner the accolade.

During the fall-to-spring slate, the Johnston, Iowa native appeared in all seven matches for the Storm. He assisted on one goal, while the team ended with 20. In 59 career fixtures, he's tallied 11 goals and nine assists. Since 2017, Dean is tied for fifth on the team in total points with 31.

The midfielder joins Jenna Taylor as CoSIDA Academic All-America selections during the course of 2020-21. Taylor was named the CoSIDA Division III Women's Basketball Academic All-America of the Year and is a two-time Academic All-America selection.
