WAVERLY, Iowa -- An 88th-minute goal was the difference in Saturday's American Rivers Conference match as the Simpson College men's soccer team fell 2-1 at Wartburg.
The Knights (3-1-0, 3-1-0) took a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute after Kevin Duque scored his third goal of the season.
The 1-0 score stood through the rest of the first stanza despite the Storm (2-1-1, 2-1-1 A-R-C) owning a 10-3 shot advantage. Wartburg goalkeeper Brennon Woody made five saves in the first 45 minutes to hold Simpson scoreless.
Jordy Triana-Vasquez knotted the game at 1-1 in the 49th minute for his third-straight match with a netter. Baraka Ellie set the play up and Triana-Vasquez was able to slice the ball by Woody.
The Knights connected on the game-winner in the 88th minute on a goal by Yushin Gossin for the hosts only shot attempt in the second half.
The Storm finished with a 17-4 shot advantage and had nine on-goal. Justin Gilmour led the attack with four shots, Mateaus Lewis and Ellie both had three.
