Simpson plays to draw at Central

PELLA, Iowa -- In a late-morning match to miss the forecasted weather, the Simpson College men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Central on Wednesday.

The Storm (2-0-1, 2-0-1 A-R-C) scored early in the contest to take an quick 1-0 tilt in the sixth minute. Baraka Ellie sent a ball downfield to a sprinting Jordy Triana-Vasquez, who finished it off by slicing it by the goalie for his second goal of the season.

The second half started in favor of the Dutch (1-1-1, 1-1-1 A-R-C). The hosts were able to get a ball deep behind Simpson's defense and a misplay by a Storm defender allowed Central's Matthew West to push the ball into the net to knot the game.

During overtime, both teams managed just two shots. Overall, the Storm tallied 18 shots and the Dutch ended with 12. Triana-Vasquez and Ellie each placed three shots on-goal to lead the attack.

Simon Van Den Abbeele collected two saves during his 110 minutes of action to help the Storm earn a point in the league standings.
