Simpson places six on all-conference team

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The duo of junior Baraka Ellie and sophomore Jordy Triana-Vasquez headline the six Simpson College student-athletes that earned Spring 2021 All-American Rivers Conference Men's Soccer Team recognition, the league announced Thursday.

In addition to Ellie and Triana-Vasquez landing on the team, seniors Justin Gilmour, Enrique Idehen and Mason Madren, along with junior Ricardo Ibarra, received honorable mention status for their performances this spring.

Simpson recorded a 3-2-2 overall mark to end fifth in the league's standings this spring. The offense tied for third in the league with a 2.86 goals per game average and tied for third in goals scored (20).

Baraka Ellie, all-conference
A native of Des Moines, Ellie is now a three-time all-conference performer after scoring one goal and assisting on four others this spring. He provided the aid on two goals in the season finale to draw 3-3 with Loras and prevent the Duhawks from winning the league championship. Ellie's six points were third on the team.

Jordy Triana-Vasquez, all-conference
A native of Clive, Iowa, Triana-Vasquez tied for second in the league with five goals to earn his first all-conference selection. He finished atop the leaderboard with two game-winning goals, coming against Buena Vista and Coe. Triana-Vasquez ended the year with 10 points, fifth most in the A-R-C. He was a key part in the Simpson offense scoring 2.86 goals per contest, tied for second in the conference.

Justin Gilmour, all-conference honorable mention
A native of Ankeny, Iowa, Gilmour appeared in all seven matches with two goals and one assist to receive his first conference accolade. Gilmour netted a goal against Buena Vista and Coe to highlight his final season with the Storm.

Ricardo Ibarra, all-conference honorable mention
A native of Marshalltown, Iowa, Ibarra earned honorable mention honors after anchoring a backline that allowed 1.86 goals per match. He appeared in five matches this season and was named the defensive player of the week on March 29 after the squad held Dubuque scoreless in the season opener.

Enrique Idehen, all-conference honorable mention
A native of Urbandale, Iowa, Idehen receives an honorable mention nod for the second-straight season. His three goals scored and eight total points are the second most on Simpson. Idehen tallied two goals and an assist in the 9-2 victory over Buena Vista. His final goal of the season came in the team's 3-3 draw with Loras. Idehen's netter came in the 48th minute to spark the second-half comeback for the Storm.

Mason Madren, all-conference honorable mention
A native of Earlham, Iowa, Madren landed on the honorable mention squad with one goal and one assist. He tallied the game-tying goal in the team's 3-3 draw with Loras to prevent the Duhawks from winning the conference title. Madren was part of a defense that allowed 1.86 goals per match this spring.
