Simpson competes in 14th-annual Kip Janvrin Open
INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's track and field team hosted the 14th-annual Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday and Friday that welcomed more than 1,200 participants from 33 colleges and universities from around the nation.
In an event of 17 hurdlers, Katelyn Mangold ran her way to a seventh-place finish with a time of 1:06.45 to claim the Storm's best result inside Buxton Stadium. Luci Swarthout clocked a 1:12.18 for 14th.
Katie Murano earned ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Cat Lucht finished in 10th, both were season bests.
Kia Noibi ran a season-best of 16.36 in the 100-meter hurdles on Friday. MacKenzie James sprinted to a 12.91 finish in the 100-meter dash for her best time of the year.
Madison Anderson had her season-best throws in the shot put and discus on Thursday. In the shot put, Anderson had a throw of 8.08 meters and in the discus she hit 25.69 meters.
The Storm celebrated their seniors at the meet, Audrey Klein, Ashlee Litterer, Jaycie Owens, Sarah Sandage, Kaylee Willadsen, Mary Wood and James.
The 2014 4x400-meter relay was broken on Friday by the team from Northwest Missouri State that ran a time of 3:54.02. The new record is over two seconds faster.
Simpson will continue its season on Friday, May 3 at the Loras Twilight meet in Dubuque, Iowa. It will begin at 3:30 p.m.
