Klein, relays pace Storm at Dubuque Invite

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- Highlighted by five top-five finishers, the Simpson women's track and field team competed at the Dubuque Invitational on Friday.

The 800-meter race turned out to be the Storm's best event as two runners crossed in the top-10 and one finished just on the outside in 11th. Audrey Klein showed her speed by placing second with a time of 2:25.18, a new career best for her. Abby Loecke raced to eighth and Mary Wood rounded out the top-three for Simpson in 11th place.

The two relays showcased fast times to garner near the top finishes. The 4x400-meter relay crossed the line in second with the help of Katelyn Mangold, Cat Lucht, Jaycie Owens and Klein. The quartet ran a 4:15.45 to trim two seconds off the team's previous best. The 4x200 of MacKenzie James, Sarah Nolting, Kamryn Juni and Mangold ended in third.

The high jump resulted in another nice performance for the storm as two jumpers scored top-seven marks. Jamie Glanz leaped 1.55 meters for second and was also a new-season best. Kamryn Juni earned seventh with a height of 1.45 meters. Mangold cleared 4.77 meters in the long jump for ninth as well.

In the 55-meter hurdles, Kia Noibi crossed in 9.23 seconds to land in seventh. Nolting and Mangold finished in 11th and 12th, respectively, in the event.

Simpson returns back to action next Friday, Feb. 22 in the American Rivers Conference Championships. The meet will be held in Waverly, Iowa at Wartburg.
