Simpson set to host Kip Janvrin Open

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's and women's track and field teams are set to host the 14th annual Kip Janvrin Open this Thursday through Friday inside Buxton Stadium. The event welcomes over 1,200 participants from more than 30 schools across the nation.

Field events will kick things off on Thursday at 10 a.m. near the Simpson Softball Complex. The hammer throw will be followed by discus and then the hammer.

On Friday, pole vault will begin at noon, with running events starting at 1 p.m. The Storm's seniors will be recognized around 6:25 p.m. on Friday for their accomplishments and commitment to the program.

There has not been a record broken at the event since 2017, when Bowling Green's Aliyah Gustafson had a distance of 15.22m in the shot put. The Storm men hold two records in the open, both the 4x100-meter relay and 10,000-meter race. The women's pole vault record is still intact from the inaugural Kip Janvrin Open in 2006, set by Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Stephanie Barnes.

Last year the Kip Janvrin Open, more than 40 schools competed with just a shade over 900 participants registered.

Formerly the Simpson Twilight, the meet was renamed in 2006 to honor 1988 Simpson graduate and 2000 Olympian, Kip Janvrin. Janvrin is one of the most decorated performers in school history, winning five national championships and 12 Iowa Conference titles.
