Owens nabs Storm's best mark at Wartburg

WAVERLY, Iowa -- While racing at the Wartburg Indoor Select Meet on Saturday, the Storm women's track and field team finished in fifth place with 36 points.

Jaycie Owens received the best mark for the team at the event, as she crossed the finish line in second place in the 600 meters. Owens was followed closely by teammates Kyli Orr and Sophie Hall, who finished in second and third, respectively.

Audrey Klein contributed to the team score with an eighth-place mark in the 800-meter race. Klein ran a 2:29.01 and Abby Loeke finished in 11th with a 2:33.27.

In the short sprints, MacKenzie James ran to a 10th-place finish in the 60 meters and 13th in the 200 meters. During the 60-meter hurdles, Kia Noibi earned seventh with a time of 10.03. Noibi ran a time of 9.90 in the prelims to capture a spot in the finals.

Mary Wood and Katie Murano finished back-to-back in the mile, with Wood crossing the line in 5:52.21 and Murano in 5:53.52. Murano ran her best time of the season in the event.

The 4x200-meter relay earned third place with a time of 1:53.78. The quartet of Luci Swarthout, Kamryn Juni, Sarah Nolting and James provided Simpson with six team points.

Jamie Glanz and Kamryn Juni finished in sixth and seventh, respectively in the high jump. Both cleared a height of 1.46 meters, but Glanz was able to edge her teammate.

Alex Niemier led the Storm throwers with a 14th-place mark in the shot put and had a showing of 16th in the hammer throw.

On Saturday, Feb. 9, Simpson will compete in the Darren Young Invitational at Grinnell.
