Knights power past Storm on Saturday

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team dropped its series-opening game with Wartburg by a score of 9-2 on Saturday.

The Knights (20-13, 10-6 A-R-C) took a 6-0 lead with the help of three home runs, including two off the bat of Zach Walton who ranks second in the conference with eight homers this season.

Lucas Johl drove in a run for the second-straight game and Bennett Wadstrom scored on a groundout to put Simpson (15-15, 6-10 A-R-C) on the board in the eighth.

Despite the loss, the Storm tallied their 15th game with double-digit strikeouts. Starter Colton Major struck out seven over the course of the first five frames, Ben Rupe had one in the sixth and Brady Leonard recorded four between the seventh and eighth. Simpson leads the conference and ranks eighth in the country in strikeouts per nine innings (10.8).
