Held’s 18 strikeouts lead to weekly A-R-C honors
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – After shattering a program record with 18 strikeouts in a 3-1, 7-inning victory over Beloit, Simpson College baseball's Brady Held has been named American Rivers Conference Male Athlete of the Week and Pitcher of the Week.
This is Held's fourth weekly honor from the conference and first of the season. He was named A-R-C Pitcher of the Week twice as a junior and once during his freshman campaign.
Held picked up his seventh consecutive win on the mound in dominating fashion, striking out 18 while allowing just two hits and one walk in the complete game victory. He struck out the first 11 Bucs that stepped up to the plate and officially broke Shawn Parker's 2004 record with his 15th strikeout which came in the sixth inning.
Offensively, Held batted .333 overall with a 3-for-3 performance in a 5-2 victory over St. Norbert on Monday. He hit two doubles, drew two walks, and scored a run in the win.
The 2021 All-Central Region performer currently leads the team with a 0.69 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 13.0 innings pitched. He's tied for second in batting average (.444), runs scored (8), hits (8) and doubles (3).
The Storm (5-1) are approaching the halfway point of their spring break trip having won all three of their games thus far. Simpson looks to make it four in a row when it takes on Farmingdale State at 5 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
