Storm suffer 5-4 walk-off loss at Central

PELLA, Iowa – The Simpson College baseball team suffered its sixth one-run loss of the season on Tuesday as Central scored two in the bottom of the ninth to claim a 5-4 win over the Storm.

After pulling his team within one with a two-run single in the seventh, Tanner Bigelow drove in the tying run from third with a base hit into left field. Central (11-12, 2-11 A-R-C) sent a second runner home on the play and managed to pull off the walk-off win when the throw from left was fumbled at the plate.

The Dutch led 1-0 through the first five innings but Simpson (11-13, 2-8 A-R-C) scored three in the sixth and one in the seventh to take a 4-1 lead. The Storm took advantage of a throwing error to tie the game before Keaton DeKock plated two with a base-hit up the middle and Kaleb Bauer scored on a Brady Held single in the seventh.

Held led the team offensively with two hits and threw the first seven innings of the game, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out nine.
