Bauer, DeKock lift Storm to 5-2 win over St. Norbert

AUBURNDALE, Fla. – Kaleb Bauer delivered the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the Simpson College baseball team remained perfect at the RussMatt Invitational with a 5-2 victory over St. Norbert on Monday.

With two outs and a pair of runners in scoring position, Bauer singled to left field to give the Storm (5-1) a 3-2 edge in the top of the eighth inning. The Green Knights (0-6) put a runner at second in the home half, but back-to-back strikeouts from Brett Kauzlarich preserved Simpson's lead going into the final inning.

Simpson loaded the bases in the ninth before Keaton DeKock brought two more runs home with a base hit to center field. Ty Cowley scored on the play as well as Brady Held, who recorded his second double of the game earlier in the frame. In the bottom of the ninth, Kauzlarich sent the Green Knights down in order with three more strikeouts.

Held was 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles and two walks, while DeKock registered a pair of hits and RBIs to lead the Storm.

Trey Castile led things off on the mound and gave up five hits and two runs while striking out six and walking one in 5.2 innings. Kauzlarich faced the final 13 batters of the game and struck out eight while allowing just three hits to improve to 2-0 on the season.
