Storm drop four-run decision to Gustavus Adolphus

TOPEKA, Kan. – The Simpson College baseball team fell 14-10 in its first game with Gustavus Adolphus and lost the opportunity to split the doubleheader with the Golden Gusties when the nightcap was called off due to weather. The Storm led 7-6 in the fourth inning before the game ended prematurely.

The Storm (2-1) will continue their non-conference schedule with eight games at the Russmatt Invitational in Auburndale, Fla. between March 12-19.

Game 1: Gustavus Adolphus 14, Simpson 10 (7 innings)
The Golden Gusties (1-2) took advantage of a couple of Storm errors to score three in the second frame and never looked back, scoring all 14 of their runs between the second and fourth innings. Simpson orchestrated a late rally with four runs in the seventh, but the comeback fell short.

Kolton Arnold and Luke Willis were both 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Zach Fuller drove in two runs with a double in the seventh to lead the Storm offensively.

Game 2: Simpson 7, Gustavus Adolphus 6 (4 innings - no contest)
The Storm fell behind early again as the Golden Gusties claimed a 5-1 advantage in the top of the second fueled by a pair of long balls. Simpson came charging back in the home half of the inning though, scoring six runs on four hits highlighted by a double from Chris Miller and a three-run homer by Arnold. Gustavus Adolphus would get one run back before the game was suspended.
