Rams rally to beat Storm in series opener

MOUNT VERNON, Iowa – A late-game rally by the Rams resulted in an 8-4 loss for the Simpson College baseball team who opened a three-game non-conference series with Cornell on Friday evening.

The Storm and Rams will play the final two games of the series on Saturday in Indianola. The twinbill is set for 2 p.m. at McBride Field.

Cornell's bats heated up late in the game and the Rams (5-10) scored four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to earn the comeback win over the Storm (9-8) who had built a 4-2 lead through six and a half innings. Nine of the home team's 13 hits came in their final four at-bats.

Ty Cowley drove in two of Simpson's runs, while Jake Havran tallied his first RBI and scored on an error in the Storm's three-run second inning. Kolton Arnold had two hits in the game.
