Cleveland wins hurdle title, Moon breaks 1500m record

DUBUQUE, Iowa – Max Cleveland won the 110 hurdles, Spencer Moon broke the 1500-meter school record, and the Simpson College men's and women's track and field teams competed for the final time before the American Rivers Conference Championships on Saturday at the Dr. Tucker Open hosted by Loras.

Cleveland secured first place in the men's 110 hurdles with a time of 14.65. It was his second-straight victory in the event after taking gold at the Simpson/Central Dual on April 23 with a time that still ranks atop the A-R-C leaderboard. He heads into the league championships ranked 11th in all of NCAA Division III.

In the 1500-meter run, Moon narrowly missed first place honors with a school record time of 3:47.87. It was the fastest race in program history since Jeff Brooks crossed the finish line in 3:50.58 in 1986, and the second school record Moon has broken this outdoor season. He holds the top time in the outdoor 1500 and 5000 as well as the indoor 3000 and 5000.

James Murray also performed well in the 1500, clocking a 3:54.76 to place eighth with the fourth-fastest time in team history. His time currently ranks seventh in the conference. Brenden Godbout cracked into the league's top-15 with a 57.83 race in the 400 hurdles.

Aaliyah Johnson placed fifth in the javelin throw (29.20m) and recorded a career-best in the 100 hurdles to place tenth in the event. Her time of 17.59 sits just outside the conference's top-20.

Haley Rasmussen placed fourth in the 400, Regan Freland and Aryss Forbes both ran personal-bests in the 100, and Teghan Booth led a group of five in the 1500-meter run.
