Cleveland’s strong hurdle performance highlights Simpson’s first home meet

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Highlighted by Max Cleveland's standout performance in the 110 hurdles, the Simpson College men's and women's track and field teams hosted the first of two home meets on Saturday at Bill Buxton Stadium.

Cleveland raced to first in the 110 hurdles with the fastest time in the American Rivers Conference this season and fourth-fastest in all of Division III. He clocked a 14.48, a mark that ranks fourth in program history, and also added a second place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.00.

Cade Mash claimed another title for the Storm, winning the 800 meter run in 2:01.39. Adam Gruhn came in second in 2:04.56, Trent Pelzer was third, and Corbin Truitt and Christian French rounded out the top-five placings.

In the 1,500 meter run, Harry Dudley missed first place by a hundredth of a second behind Central's Will DeHaan who crossed the finish line in 4:00.18. Spencer Moon, who re-broke his own record in the 5,000-meters last week at the UW-Platteville Invitational, and James Murray followed close behind and placed third and fourth, respectively.

Teghan Booth shaved over 10 seconds off her 1,500-meter time to place third with a 5:07.09, while Haley Rasmussen (100, 200) and Aaliyah Johnson (LJ, 100H) both notched two top-three placings on the day.

Simpson's throwers showed great improvement as Alexis Crozier recorded personal-best marks in all three of her events and Sydney McCarron threw PR marks in both the shot put and hammer throw. Audrey Arnold improved her career-best javelin throw by over six feet.
