Moon leads Simpson track and field squads in Missouri
MARYVILLE, Mo. – Spencer Moon improved his 3000-meter school record for the second time in as many meets to highlight the Simpson College men's and women's track and field team's performance at the Bearcat Invite hosted by Northwest Missouri State.
"Today we saw some of the best competition from Division II and we competed well," said head coach Aaron Fuller. "I am very pleased with the way our team responded to this opportunity. Spencer and Harry ran fantastic in the 3k - it was an exciting race and they competed hard."
Moon earned the Storm's highest placing of the day with a silver medal in the 3,000-meter run after crossing the finish line in 8:15.14, the fastest time in school history and the second-fastest mark in American Rivers Conference history behind Central's Eli Horton who ran a 8:14.94 in 2014.
Harry Dudley also placed in the top-10 in the 3000m with a career-best time of 8:35.51, which was two seconds faster than his personal best set two weeks ago in Iowa City. In the women's 3k, Cat Lucht, Sophie Hall and Kaya Young all posted collegiate bests with Lucht's time of 11:20.58 sitting just outside the conference's top-20 list.
All eight runners that competed in the 800-meter race improved their season bests, while Ryan Courtney, Emily Erhardt and Ean Warrick all set personal bests in the mile. Carter Berkey went 6.76m in the long jump to set a season-best and move into the top-5 in the conference, and Aaliyah Johnson dipped under 11 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles for a new personal best.
