Track and field hosts 16th Annual Kip Janvrin

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's and women's track and field teams hosted the 16th Annual Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday night and Friday.

The meet, which featured more than 1500 competitors from over 60 colleges and universities around the country, opened on Thursday night with eight sections of the 5000-meter run. Teghan Booth led the Storm women with a time of 18:44.43 and Noah Nelsen paced the men's team with a time of 15:13.70.

Simpson also had three runners compete at the Drake Relays on Thursday night: Ryan Courtney (steeplechase), Spencer Moon (5000m), and Harry Dudley (10,000m).

On Friday, the Storm combined for five top-10 finishes and ran some of the fastest times in the American Rivers Conference this season. James Murray placed 10th in the 1500 with the sixth-fastest time in the league (3:57.13), and Haley Rasmussen clocked the conference's 14th-fastest 400 meter dash (1:01.91) of the year. Sophie Hall placed herself in the league's top-10 with a 12:13.57 finish in the steeplechase.

Carter Berkey led Simpson in field events with a fifth place finish in the long jump. He soared 6.69 meters, a mark which sets a new personal best and ranks sixth in the conference.

Simpson honored nine seniors during the meet. Sophie Hall, Mackenzie Laughlin, Abby Loecke, Cat Lucht, Katie Murano, Kyli Orr, Shane Breheny, Ryan Courtney, and Harry Dudley were all recognized in front of the home crowd.

Up Next
The Storm will head to Dubuque twice over the next two weeks. Simpson will first compete at Loras' Dr. Tucker Invitational on May 6. The Storm will then return east for the A-R-C Outdoor Championships taking place from May 12-14.
