Simpson track begins outdoor season

WAVERLY, Iowa – The Simpson College men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2022 outdoor season at either the Wartburg Outdoor Select or Washington University's Distance Carnival on Friday.

In Waverly, the Storm collected 10 top-10 performances with a quartet of fifth-place finishes. James Murray took fifth in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:02.2, Blake DePhillips completed the 400 hurdles in 1:01.09 for fifth, and Carter Berkey (6.57m) and Aaliyah Johnson (1.45m) leaped to fifth place in the long jump and high jump, respectively.

Ulysses Patterson had a pair of top-10 finishes, coming in eighth place in the 400 meters (52.25) and ninth in the long jump (6.30m). Ryan Courtney placed eighth in the 1500m, Trent Pelzer was ninth in the 800m, and Aryss Forbes came in ninth in the 100m.

The men's 4x400 team of Trent Pelzer, Adam Gruhn, Ean Warrick and Cade Mash placed inside the top-10.

In St. Louis, Spencer Moon and Harry Dudley competed in the 10,000 meter run. Moon placed seventh with a time of 29.53.79 and Dudley finished 17th in 30:50.09. The two times rank second and third all-time behind Danny Bauer's record time of 29.50.70 from 1984.
