Simpson competes at A-R-C Indoor Championships

DUBUQUE, Iowa – The Simpson College men's track and field team had five athletes earn all-conference recognition at the American Rivers Conference Indoor Championships hosted by Dubuque on Friday and Saturday.

The Storm men competed alongside two of the nation's top-5 teams and five of the region's top-10 squads, while the Simpson women were up against four top-10 teams in the nation and five top-10 regional teams.

Loras swept both team titles as the top-ranked women's team took home the program's first indoor conference championship with 193 points and the No. 2 men's squad captured its fourth title in school history with 179 points. Wartburg finished second in each field and both Dubuque teams came in third.

Harry Dudley was the Storm's first all-conference performer with a runner-up finish in the 5000-meter run on Friday evening. The fifth-year senior crossed the finish line in 14:53.10 behind Wartburg's Joe Freiburger who defended his title with a 14:49.18 race. Dudley's time was the second-fastest of his career.

Also running to all-conference honors was the men's distance medley relay of Ryan Courtney, Max Cleveland, James Murray and Spencer Moon. The quartet clocked a school-record 10:08.62 to finish third behind Loras and Central as all three squads bested the previous facility record of 10:14.00. Simpson shaved four seconds off the previous program record set last year at the indoor championships.

Spencer Moon rounded out the weekend with the 13th fastest 3000-meter run in the country that earned second place and all-conference accolades. Freiburger won the race in 8:16.55 and Moon was close behind with a time of 8:19.12.

The women's 4x800 team of Emma Angus, Abby Loecke, Teghan Booth and Angel Schewe was just shy of All-A-R-C distinction with a fourth-place finish, while Cleveland earned fifth place in the 60-meter hurdles. Simpson had eight other top-10 placings.

"Our team went out and competed hard this weekend," said head coach Aaron Fuller. "We had athletes show a lot of heart doing multiple events."
