Storm finish regular season in Waverly

WAVERLY, Iowa – Carter Berkey's runner-up finish in the long jump paced the Simpson College men's and women's track and field team's time at the Liz Wuertz Invitational on Saturday, the final meet before the American Rivers Conference Championships next weekend.

Berkey surpassed 22 feet in the long jump for the second time this season, placing second with a mark of 6.71 meters behind Wartburg's Keegan Rich who leaped 6.75 meters.

Ryan Courtney and Max Cleveland both turned in third-place finishes for the Storm as Courtney ran a personal-best time of 4:21.33 in the mile and Cleveland posted a time of 8.31 in the 60-meter hurdles. Andrew Klein also had a successful race in the mile, clocking a season-best 4:26.52 for fifth place.

Emma Angus completed the mile in 5:37.36 to land in fifth place for the highest individual placing on the women's squad. Also running the mile, Emily Erhardt logged a new personal-best and placed seventh. Sydney McCarron had a career-best performance in the shot put with a heave of 11.01 meters, which earned sixth place.

In the 800-meter run, James Murray and Corbin Truitt took seventh and ninth, respectively, with the team's top-two times of the season. Abby Loecke finished in the top-10 on the women's side with a time of 2:30.68.

"It was fantastic to see so many of our athletes come out today and hit season bests," said head coach Aaron Fuller. "The team is moving in the right direction, and we are excited for the A-R-C championship meet next week."
