Strecker, Cozzoni named CoSIDA Academic All-District

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- For the first time since 2002, the Simpson College women's soccer program has two College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-District selections as senior Madi Strecker and sophomore Abby Cozzoni were both chosen, CoSIDA announced Thursday.

The duo are the seventh and eighth players to receive the honor in program history and join Cami Schmalz (2019) as honorees under head coach Jeremy Reinert.

Inside the classroom, Strecker managed a 3.50 GPA while majoring in clinical health sciences and Cozzoni holds a perfect 4.00 GPA as an elementary education and liberal arts major.

A native of Denver, Colorado, Strecker was part of a defense that shut out four opponents this season. The defender started all seven matches and assisted on two goals, which occurred on back-to-back netters by Cambri Mason against Coe on April 13. Strecker was tabbed All-American Rivers Conference after helping the Storm finish third in the standings.

A native of Wentzille, Missouri, Cozzoni scored one goal while helping the backline shut out four teams this spring. Simpson conceded just four goals to tie for the second fewest this season in the A-R-C. She landed on the all-conference honorable mention squad to pad her accolades.

Strecker and Cozzoni will now be placed on the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced in early July.
