Roberts scores twice to lift Storm over the Dutch

PELLA, Iowa -- For the first time since 2010, the Simpson College women's soccer team leaves Pella with a victory. The Storm surged to a 4-2 triumph over the Dutch on Wednesday to remain unbeaten in American Rivers Conference action.

Two second-half goals proved to be the difference for Simpson (2-0-1, 2-0-1 A-R-C) to seal its second-straight win against Central (1-2-0, 1-2-0 A-R-C). The last time the Storm won two in a row over the Dutch was in 2011, once in the regular season and once to start the Iowa Conference Tournament.

Simpson scored first in the 15th minute off a corner kick. Kaitlyn Bravek sent her corner into the box to a leaping Megan Roberts, who was able to head the ball in for the 1-0 lead.

Central's Abby Frey scored in the 20th and 41st minutes to hand the hosts a 2-1 advantage. The Dutch have now scored at least twice against the Storm in five of the last six matches.

Right before intermission, head coach Jeremy Reinert's squad knotted the game at 2-2. Cassie Nash had her shot deflected and a waiting Jaci Versluis tapped in the rebound for her first-career netter.

In the second stanza, Nash found the back of the net in the 50th minute for her third goal of the season. With Central pressuring Simpson's defense late in the second half, Roberts tallied her fourth goal of the year in the 89th minute to clinch the victory.

Goalkeeper Brenny Frederick remains without a blemish to her record to start her career for the Storm by saving three shots during the match. Frederick is third in the league with a .621 goals against average.

The offense owned a 17-8 shot advantage with 13 of those on frame. Nash led the way with four shots on-goal.
