Wartburg edges Simpson in 1-0 battle

WAVERLY, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's soccer squad ended on the wrong side of a 1-0 contest at Wartburg on Saturday for the team's first blemish of the season.

The Knights (4-0-0, 4-0-0 A-R-C) remain unbeaten after suffocating the Storm (2-1-1, 2-1-1 A-R-C) offense by allowing them to take just four shots, with two on-goal. The four shots are the fewest Simpson has taken this season.

Wartburg scored the game-winner in the 26th minute on a shot from the deep right side by Sarah Campbell.

Simpson's defense allowed the Knights to rattle off four shots on-goal, much less than their average of 15.3 shots on-target per match coming into today's meeting.

Brenny Frederick's streak of three-straight matches without a loss was snapped as she tallied one save for the Storm. This was the second time this season the Knights were held to just one goal.

Megan Roberts and Julia Wagoner placed the two lone shots on-frame. Roberts had a nice look in the 90th minute to knot the contest, but Wartburg's Marissa Lopez was able to get her hands on the ball to secure the shutout.
