Storm shutout Luther behind Wagoner’s game-winner

DECORAH, Iowa -- An 18th-minute goal served as the game-winner for the Simpson College women's soccer squad in a 2-0 win at Luther on Saturday.

The Storm (4-1-1, 4-1-1 A-R-C) now sit third in the American Rivers Conference standings after securing their second-straight regular season victory over the Norse (4-2-0, 4-2-0 A-R-C). This is the first time since the 2011 and 2012 campaigns Simpson has won back-to-back regular season meetings in the series.

The Storm have scored 16 goals through six A-R-C matches this season, five more than the 2019 squad totaled at this point of the league slate.

Both teams fired over double-digit shot efforts, with the hosts owning a 14-12 edge. The Norse had the advantage in corner kicks by a 12-2 margin, while the Storm tallied one more shot on-goal.

Julia Wagoner recorded her first career goal and game-winner in the 18th minute. The netter stood until Cassie Nash sprinted down the pitch with the ball to tally her fourth goal of the season in the 82nd minute to widen the buffer.

Nash ended with three shots, with two on-frame to pace the offense. Lizzie Arnburg, Megan Roberts and Wagoner all had one attack on-goal.

Brenny Frederick tallied four saves for her fourth shutout of the season and second in a row.
