Mason scores twice in shutout victory over Coe

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- It was the Cambri Mason and Madi Strecker show as the duo worked together for two goals in the Simpson College women's soccer team's 3-0 triumph over Coe on Tuesday.

The tandem of Mason and Strecker scored two goals in a matter of minutes to help the Storm (3-1-1, 3-1-1 A-R-C) secure their sixth-straight shutout inside Buxton Stadium and snap a six-game winless streak against the Kohawks (0-5-0, 0-5-0, A-R-C).

The first goal happened in the 37th minute as Strecker set the play up with a corner kick. The senior sent the ball sailing in front of the goal to a sprinting Mason who was able to head the ball in for her first goal of the season.

Déjà vu took place in the 38th minute on another corner kick by Strecker, which resulted in another header by Mason to put Simpson up 2-0 against the Kohawks.

In the 86th minute, Baileigh Nagy tallied her first netter of the season. Cassie Nash was credited with the assist after her shot on-goal was blocked and Nagy was there to tap the ball in off the ricochet.

Simpson was on the attack all afternoon by blasting 12 shots on-frame to keep Coe's Alex Montalbano busy near the net.

Head coach Jeremy Reinert's defense played a key role in the shutout. Brenny Frederick only faced one shot on-goal in the third minute as the Kohawks attempted just four shots overall.

Coe has now been held scoreless in four of its five matches this season.
