Simpson offense ignites for 7-0 onslaught of Buena Vista

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson College women's soccer team registered its largest scoring output since Oct. 2, 2017 on Tuesday in a 7-0 shutout against Buena Vista as four players scored.

The Storm (1-0-1, 1-0-1 A-R-C) had three players record two goals in the American Rivers Conference matchup while the defense held the Beavers (0-2-0, 0-2-0 A-R-C) to zero shot attempts.

The attack was on all night as the offense fired off 51 shots, including 26 on-frame. Of the 27 players that saw action tonight for Simpson, 15 tallied a shot and all but three had one on target.

After going all 110 minutes without a goal in the season opener on Saturday, Cassie Nash started the rout early with a goal in the sixth minute. Abby Cozzoni put Simpson up 2-0 in the 21st minute off a deflection for her first career goal.

The second half was no different to the Storm as the offense tallied two goals in the first 3:20 of action. Nash tallied her second goal of the contest off a pass from Megan Roberts in the 47th minute. Roberts added to her point total with a goal less than two minutes later coming off an assist from Brooklin Froehlich.

Roberts padded her stats once more with another netter, this time at the 57th-minute mark. Hailey Kowzan earned her first career goal two minutes later with the help of another assist by Roberts. Kowzan capped off the scoring for the Storm with a goal in the 72nd minute.

The victory was the first for goalkeeper Brenny Frederick as she earned her second-straight shutout. Head coach Jeremy Reinert has now coached the Storm to 16 shutouts since taking over the reigns of the program at the start of the 2018 campaign.
