No. 20 Spartans pull away late to take down Storm

INDIANOLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's wrestling team trailed by just three points at the conclusion of seven matches, but No. 20 Dubuque collected the final three wins to defeat the Storm 28-13 on Senior Night.

The Storm (6-7, 2-6 A-R-C) hurried out to a 9-0 lead courtesy of a 7-1 win by Dylan McChesney and a big first-period pin by Kanin Hable. McChesney went ahead 2-0 with a takedown in the first period and stretched his lead to 6-0 with a reversal and two penalty points in the second. Hable took control of his match midway through the first period and locked up his first pin over an American Rivers Conference opponent in 1:21.

The Spartans cut into the Storm's lead with a pin of their own in the next match and earned 10 more team points via a major decision and two decisions over the next three weights. Shyler Langley secured five takedowns en route to a 13-2 major decision at 174 pounds to pull Simpson within three, 16-13, but Dubuque (7-8, 4-4 A-R-C) shut the door with wins in the final three matches.

Simpson recognized seven seniors prior to the dual including Josh Bower, Caleb Bower, Colton Kinnison, Shane Mathias, Sam McCoy, Robert Silva and Zach Stewart.
