Simpson opens 2023 in Pella

PELLA, Iowa – The Simpson College men's wrestling team had four individuals place in the top 3 at the Central Under Armour Invitational on Saturday.

Dylan McChesney (125) and Troy Galloway (197) finished runner-up in their brackets, while Shyler Langley (174) and Riley Kovaleski (157) claimed third. Other placewinners for Simpson included Kanin Hable (133) in fourth, Zach Stewart (149) in fifth, and Josh Bower and Caden Elliot (174) in sixth.

McChesney led the Storm with 17.0 team points, advancing to the championship match with a pair of pins in his first two matches and a 5-4 decision over Central's Cory Hoyle in the semifinals. Joey Lamparelli of Muhlenberg secured the title over McChesney via an injury default.

Galloway made his collegiate debut a memorable one with second-place honors in the 197 silver bracket. He defeated Central's Nathan Rosas 8-7 in overtime before pinning Wartburg's Levi Henry in 4:40 to earn a spot in the finals, where he ultimately lost 4-0 to David Lewis of Benedictine.

Langley went 3-1 on the day with two decisions and a 12-3 major decision over Wartburg's Devin Nobiling. Kovaleski also tallied three wins in four matches highlighted by a first-period pin over Elijah Belzer of Central in his placement bout.
