Storm post 39-9 win at Buena Vista

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Dylan McChesney and Shane Mathias registered pins, three others earned major decisions, and the Simpson College men's wrestling team posted a 39-9 American Rivers Conference win at Buena Vista on Friday night.

McChesney opened the dual with his 10th pin of the season against Tyler Japp, winning in 1:28 to give the Storm a quick 6-0 advantage. Kanin Hable dropped a high-scoring affair to Nolan Nguyen in the next match, but the Beavers were open at 141 pounds as Simpson extended its lead to 12-3.

Josh Bower and Riley Kovaleski scored back-to-back major decisions at 149 and 157 pounds, respectively, to push the score to 20-3. Bower used a seven-point second period to win his match 11-3 and Kovaleski pulled away with five points in the third to claim a 9-1 victory.

Shyler Langley and Andrew Wolff combined for seven more team points after Buena Vista cut the lead to 20-9 with a pin at 165 pounds. Langley won 8-3 over Garrett Bruce and Wolff followed with an 11-2 win over Luis Salazar. Mathias pinned Jesus Ceja in 3:47 at 197 pounds and Colton Kinnison received a forfeit at heavyweight to wrap the dual.
