Men’s wrestling earns first dual victory

INDIANOLA, Iowa – Fueled by pins from four wrestlers, the Simpson College men's wrestling team earned its first dual victory of the season over Iowa Wesleyan. The Storm defeated the Tigers 40-12 inside Black Box.

The Storm (1-2) hurried out to an 18-0 lead as Dylan McChesney and Kanin Hable earned first-period pins at 125 and 133 and Joe Weaver won by forfeit at 141. Zach Stewart (149) gave Simpson three more points with a 5-2 decision over Austin Abitua before Iowa Wesleyan (1-2) took the next two matches to make the score 21-12 in favor of the home team.

Shyler Langley pinned Jesus Diaz early in the second period of the 174 match and Caden Elliot clinched the Storm victory with a 11-3 major decision at 184. Shane Mathias (197) and Colton Kinnison (285) finished things off with a 6-1 decision and a pin, respectively.
