Brown advances to day two of regional competition

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- RJ Brown is still alive for the Simpson wrestling team after the first day of competition at the NCAA Lower Midwest Regional on Saturday.

Brown won his opening match on a 11-9 decision over Hunter Tessman of Westminster. Brown lost in his next match on a technical fall that moved him to the consolation bracket, while there, he advanced on a 5-3 decision against Delmontae Davis of Dubuque. He will compete against Cam Hayes of North Central on Sunday.

DeVaughn Scott earned a pin in his first match in 3:26. Scott fell in his next two matches to end his impressive career for the Storm.

Dylan McChesney fell in his opening match, but won with a 2:31 pin during his first consolation match. McChesney lost in his next bout to end his freshman season. Jacob Irwin lost his first match and moved on with a 3-2 decision in the consolation bracket before falling by pin to end his run.

Competition will resume on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Dubuque, Iowa at the Five Flags Center.
